Pediatric CNA (PEDS) Certification FAQ

Pediatric CNA (PEDS) Certification FAQ

What is the prerequisite to enroll in the Pediatric CNA (PEDS) course?

You must have an active CNA license or be currently attending a CNA Course at QCP to enroll. The PEDS course is designed to teach you how to adapt the skills you already know for pediatric patients, not to teach you new basic CNA skills.

What is the total time commitment and format for the PEDS course?

The Pediatric CNA course is an intensive 7-hour program that can be completed in one day. It is offered as an Online Hybrid format consisting of: 3.5 hours of online study and 3.5 hours of classroom/in-person training.

What is the total cost for the Pediatric CNA course?

The total course fee for the Pediatric CNA program is $175. Payment plans are available, which may change the total fee to $200 (a first installment of $100 is due at enrollment, and the second $100 is due before the first day of class).

What specific knowledge and skills will I gain in the PEDS course?

The curriculum is based on content authored by Children’s Nebraska and focuses on adapting CNA skills for children. You will learn: basic pediatric nursing skills (like checking vital signs), how to assess growth and development stages with appropriate communication, techniques for identifying and reporting abuse/neglect, and effective de-escalation techniques.

What credential do I receive upon completion of the PEDS course?

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Pediatric CNA Certification from Quality Career Pathways. This specialized training is designed to help you secure a position in pediatric healthcare settings.

What types of facilities hire Pediatric CNAs?

A Pediatric CNA certification can open doors to jobs in specialized settings that require care for children, such as pediatric health clinics, children’s rehabilitation centers, pediatrician offices, and possibly in hospital settings.

Are there any age or health requirements to enroll?

Yes, you must be at least 18 years old. You must also be in good physical health, able to lift 25 pounds, and be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Should I also get a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with my PEDS certification?

Yes, it is highly recommended. Most hospitals and clinics that hire CNAs, including those in the pediatric field, typically require staff to have an American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification.

Do I need to complete my online portion before the in-person class?

Yes. You must complete your required 3.5 hours of online coursework prior to your scheduled in-person classroom session. Failure to complete the online work on time may require you’re not allowed to attend your scheduled course time.
